REBEL Fighting Championship
Acquires Expo AV-InSync for S$10 Million
In-housing of production helps REBEL FC compete with international rivals
• Production Capability – Expo AV-InSync is a partner to leading event companies and automotive brands
• Global Expansion – The new in-house production capability positions REBEL FC to compete with international rivals as it ramps up its branded media and content
• Reality TV & Events – Deal also lays the foundation for an MMA-based reality TV show planned in China, as well as an increase to 8-10 events per year
REBEL Fighting Championship (“REBEL FC”), Singapore’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) entertainment company, has acquired Singapore-based Expo AV-InSync ("EAI") for S$10 million to bolster its in-house production capabilities. The deal comes as REBEL FC seeks to strengthen its global brand and produce more of its own video content to rival international competitors, with a strong market lead in China where it’s currently planning an MMA reality TV show. It is also gearing up to deliver 8-10 events per year, a substantial increase on current fight scheduling.
REBEL FC has secured major live broadcast TV network and online streaming deals in China and attracted viewership numbers in the tens of millions per fight, well ahead of international rivals. Its upcoming fight, REBEL FC 9 Return of the Champion, will take place in Shanghai on September 7 and is expected to cement REBEL FC’s lead in China where its viewership numbers have increased by 100 per cent year-on-year. The tournament brings in fighters from around the world.
Justin Leong, CEO of REBEL FC, said: “With this acquisition, we will own our own production capabilities and have greater control over the quality of all physical events – paramount to our brand identity. We know that to become a truly global force in MMA we need a world-class production capability, which this deal delivers. As we end 2019 and head into 2020, we are ready to take the fight to our international rivals. Our strong foothold in China, where we are the market leader, represents just the first step on our global expansion.”
Gerard Rodrigues, Managing Director of EAI, said: “We’ve built an incredible track record as long-term strategic partners for Singapore's leading event management companies, as well as trusted partners to leading automotive brands. This exciting opportunity to become part of the REBEL FC family will see our production and audio-visual equipment and systems capabilities seamlessly integrated into REBEL FC’s global MMA events and media efforts. From everything we’ve seen, REBEL FC has the potential to become a truly global force in MMA – one of the few Singapore brands with real international appeal.”
REBEL FC has secured online streaming deals in China with IQiyi, Youku, and PP Sports, YY.com, Panda TV, Douyu, Huya, Longzhu, QiE, Baofeng Sports, Fighting World, Sina Sports, and Black Bear APP. It’s also signed deals with major TV stations Qinghai Satellite, GDTV Sports, Tianjin Sports, Beijing Sports, Great Sports, and Shenzhen Sports. REBEL FC’s most recent fight, REBEL FC 8 in May 2018, drew a live broadcast TV and digital viewership of over 13 million. The company has secured recent sponsorships with Intel NUC, ORIGO Coffee, and Wicked Bunny.
